About Josie Dove
I am Josie Dove, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a private practice in Fort Collins, Colorado. I offer in-person and online psychotherapy for individuals and couples, as well as consultation and training for mental health professionals. I specialize in complex trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, and emotion regulation, drawing on over 20 years of experience as a healthcare provider to create an integrative, somatic, mindfulness-based approach to psychotherapy grounded in neuroscience and tailored to your unique needs.
Training & Credentials
I hold a Master's degree in Somatic Counseling Psychology from Naropa University and am an EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist. I have extensive post-graduate training in a variety of therapeutic modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, Attachment-based therapy, Applied Polyvagal Therapy, Therapeutic Yoga, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I had the privilege of obtaining my training in Sensorimotor Therapy directly from the founder, Dr. Pat Ogden. I co-created and served as lead clinician for the intensive outpatient Dialectical Behavioral Therapy program at Boulder Community Hospital. Since 2018, I've consulted and trained with Dr. Arielle Schwartz in her Resilience Informed Therapy and Somatic EMDR, and have assisted her and served as guest faculty in several recent courses.
Experience
I have practiced in a variety of settings including private practice, group practice, outpatient hospital settings, and as a member of a multidisciplinary team for an integrative family medical practice. My experience includes treating anxiety, complex trauma/PTSD, chronic illness, self-injury, parent-child dynamics, and mood disorders.
Where I'm Rooted
I'm passionate about the power of resilience and the human capacity to heal, grow, and transform through life's challenges. My approach is rooted in the understanding that healing happens not only through insight but also through embodied experience. I use a practical approach to integrating somatic therapy with evidence-based practices, supporting you to heal the wounds of the past while developing the resources to build a satisfying life in the present.
My work is grounded in deep respect for each person's unique experiences and intersecting identities. I am a white, cis-gendered, heterosexual woman. I've had the privilege of working in diverse settings, which has strengthened my commitment to therapy that recognizes the impact of systemic inequity, privilege, and stigma on marginalized populations. I strive to provide an inclusive, affirming, and culturally responsive therapeutic space for all people.
A Little About Me
Outside of my practice, I'm most at home in nature. Whether trail-running, backpacking, or digging in my garden, spending time outdoors with friends and family is my greatest joy. Ecstatic dance, yoga, and mind-body practices are some of my favorite ways to stay balanced. My background in energy work, herbal medicine, and holistic health forms the foundation of my approach to both life and work.
